A smartphone lit in the dark showing an unexpected message
Question 1 of 80 answered

Were you contacted unexpectedly?

A cold call, text, social media message or dating app from someone you did not know.

Your answers stay in your browser and are never sent.

The warning signs that matter most

Most fraud - whatever the story sounds like - is built from a few repeatable tactics. Spot them early and you can stop before you lose anything.

Unexpected contact

You were approached out of the blue by a stranger - by phone, text, social media or a dating app - about money or an investment.

Pressure and urgency

You are rushed with "limited-time" offers or threats that you will lose everything if you delay. Manufactured urgency is the fraudster's core tool.

Guaranteed returns

Promises of high, certain profits with no risk. No legitimate investment can guarantee returns - this alone is a serious red flag.

Untraceable payments

You are pushed to pay in cryptocurrency, gift cards or to an unfamiliar third-party account that cannot easily be reversed or traced.

Cannot be verified

The firm does not appear on the FCA register, or its details do not match those the regulator holds - a common sign of a clone firm.

Withdrawals blocked

The platform shows paper profits but will not release your money, or suddenly demands "tax" or "fees" before you can withdraw.

Already sent money? Do this now

Acting quickly genuinely changes the odds. Follow these three steps in order.

  1. 01

    Stop all payments

Do not send another penny, however small the "fee" or however urgent the demand. Legitimate firms never require payment to release your own money.

  2. 02

    Preserve the evidence

Save every message, email, receipt, screenshot, wallet address and account detail. Do not confront the person or delete anything - the trail matters.

  3. 03

    Contact us

Send us what you have for a free, confidential case review. We investigate the transactions, trace where the money went and set out the practical steps to pursue recovery - handling the process for you rather than sending you from door to door.

Check a specific company or platform

Search our live database of known scam entities and clone firms, or send us a name and we will check it for you free of charge.
